Citicholine (cytidine 5'diphosphocholine or CDP Choline) is a naturally occuring, water soluble biological compound that is an essential precusor for the synthesis of phosphatidyl choline, a major constituent of the grey matter of brain tissue. Scientific research demonstrates that Citicholine consumption promotes brain metabolism by enhancing the synthesis of acetylcholine, restoring phospholipid content in the brain, and regulating brain cell membrane excitability and osmolarity.

Over the years, I've regularly recommended several supplements for memory enhancement and/or age-related memory problems. I update this list periodically, with new supplements being added and those that have proven disappointing eliminated. Citicholine is a newly available supplement that's formed in the process of the body converting choline (one of the B vitamins) into phosphatidyl choline. Some very interesting research, using both people and lab animals, have shown that regularly used citicholine does indeed enhance memory and may, in fact, slow down Alzheimer's diesease.
